History

Federal Medical Centre, Wase is a federal health institution located in Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, Nigeria.

The Centre was established under the Federal Medical Centres Act, signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2022. The bill was facilitated by Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, then Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Dr. Muhammad Shittu Adamu was appointed Chief Medical Director in August 2023. In July 2024, the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding to commence services, and operations began in August 2024, including surgical operations.

An 80-bed hospital on Jarnai Road, Wase was assigned to FMC Wase in a federal handover of maternal and child health facilities.

The Centre serves Plateau South Senatorial Zone and neighbouring states, whose residents previously travelled over 200 km to Jos, or to Bauchi and Taraba, for tertiary care.
